Making a Difference

Mental health issues affect everyone, but young men often face unique challenges that can have a significant impact on their well-being and increase their risk of suicide.

‘Another Mans Shoes’ is a creation in the making looking at the deep rooted effects of mental health, Written by Stephen Connor this story looks at the story of one man, with the help of Eddie Capli and Baz Westland they are collaborating to produce a film production.

A Production In The Making With:

Stephen Connor &
Eddie Capli

The film was created by Eddie Capli and Stephen Connor who met as actors in the late 90’s and first collaborated on the successful play “The Call” for The Greater Manchester Fringe Festival. It started out as a short play about a man dealing with addiction and mental health issues but with a constant rise in suicide rates amongst men and people within their own lives the focus moved and we thought a short film would be more impactful to tackle such a delicate issue.

Social Stigma

Young men may face social stigma surrounding mental health, making it difficult for them to seek help or talk openly about their struggles. This stigma can prevent them from accessing the support they need, leading to untreated mental health issues.

Pressure to conform

Society often expects young men to adhere to traditional masculine norms, such as being stoic, strong, and independent. This pressure can make it challenging for them to express vulnerability or seek help, as it may be perceived as a sign of weakness.

Limited Emotional Expression

Young men may feel limited in their ability to express emotions beyond anger or aggression, which can lead to difficulties in coping with stressors and emotions. This emotional suppression can contribute to the development of mental health disorders.

High Rates of Substance Abuse

Substance abuse is often used as a coping mechanism for underlying mental health issues. Young men may turn to drugs or alcohol to self-medicate, which can exacerbate their mental health problems and increase their risk of suicide.

Barriers to Accessing Mental Health Services

Even when young men recognize that they need help, they may encounter barriers to accessing mental health services, such as cost, lack of availability, or long waiting times for appointments. This can delay or prevent them from receiving timely intervention.
